Excluding Peppino, choose a character and investigate all the possible symbolic meanings s/he carries.
Ex:
Pamela: blonde, white, rich, thrill-seeking, sex fiend, not a worry in the brain.
Two very-small-role African American characters.
Toni the Anarchist.
The moralizing sermon by Don Nicolone.

ReplyDeleteRosita: Brunette, White, Singer, Rising Star, Modest, Determined, Headstrong, Independent, Career Driven, Peppino's heart, not easily influenced nor fooled, very aware of her surroundings, and considerate.
ReplyDeleteBeppo: Goofy, poor, uneducated, not serious, discriminated against, low class, suffers pain, persecuted, shows rage. He was dealt an uneasy hand in life but was able to not carry malice in his heart in the end.

ReplyDeleteWell dressed, dark hair and mustache, Don Nicolone's "dog", self contained, jealous, sneaky, greedy, traitor.
Don Nicolone: Powerful, rich, involved with the black hand, dirty money, uses violence to get what he wants.
ReplyDeleteMan who pretends to be Beppo's father: Dirty, Poor, "gold-digger", fake, loud.
ReplyDeletePeppino's boss in Italy. He is dressed well with a top hat and is smoking a pipe. We see him rip off Peppino's pay and those features paint the picture of a sleazy business man.

ReplyDeleteDon Nicolone, Rich, Mafia Boss, Built an empire, Also the man who made Peppino who he is at the end of the film.
ReplyDeleteToni : no respect for authority, only thinks in the short term, does not have a promising future, a hopeless romantic who hopes to die in the arms of a beautiful woman, an anarchist with nothing to lose and a tendency for vigilantism, extremely un-materialistic and radical, life in and out of jail, disregard for his own well being and those around him
ReplyDeleteI like Luke's description of Toni, because he indeed is a loner who uses violence to fight against the oppression of his people. I agree with all of the traits that Luke observed, because Toni does think in short term and doesn't have a promising future, hence him dying in the end
DeleteDon Nicolone- Rich, Leader, Mafia, Powerful, Dangerous, "The Man", made everyone scared of him, Thinks money can solve things ( when he gives Peppino the money to get lost)
